this is not an ocuk competitor ill state this firstly, so i hope the thread wont be locked :)

my cousin in canada is trying to set up a site atm that sells car parts and so on, and Im helping design a simple website in which people would have access to different parts and buy in quantities only several products will be available at the start but either way theres products to buy so what would be the best way to intergrate a payment system and if so what kind of payment system ??? paypal apparently costs him $35 a month and hed like to go cheaper if possible maybe credit card transfer etc like on tesco and good old ocuk :) how would i go about doing this ??

TBH, most of the major payment services are very similar.

Paypal, WorldPay, Protx etc all charge on average 3-6% per transaction. Some have monthly fees with low transaction fees, others have just higher transaction fees, and some offer both options.

Over here, there are a number of Paypal options that don't have a monthly fee...

Some require a merchant account at a bank which can add another layer of fees.

List of UK payment providers - I'm sure there are plenty of equivalents for Canada.

Sorry to ninja the thread :p

Does google checkout auto give out say a URL?

We want to give people things to download if they buy something (ebooks for example that we create) and once they purchase they can auto download them, anyone got ideas of the best way of getting this done?

In the states the widely used provider seems to be Authorize.net, but your friend will need a merchant account. Gateways that use merchant accounts tend to be cheaper, so it's the way to go if you're doing high volume and getting hammered on costs.

I've never specifically used Google Checkout on my sites, but Paypal can do what you need, so I imagine Google will be the same.

I've had to integrate a lot of systems with various client websites, so purely from a developer view, here's how I'd rank them in order of preference...

PROTX (now SagePay) > Worldpay > Google > * > Paypal > Barclays
