I've just moved in to my new place, and currently have my router (DG834GT) in the lounge connected to the BT master socket. The router is then cabled with CAT5e to my media PC and my Xbox 360 which sit next to it.

The thing is, i also have two desktop PC's that i want upstairs in my study. Ideally i want to cable the router to my switch as i'm not a big fan of WiFi, but i just wondered what people would do in my situation, the way i see it i have three options:

  • Cable from router to upstairs switch (prefferred but the hardest work)
  • Use a WiFi AP to bridge connections from the router and then cable the desktops into the AP.
  • Use those "Powerline/Homeplug" adaptors, specifically the ZyXEL PLA401's, but i'm a confused as to how these work and think i'd prefer not to have them on all the time...

So, what would you do, and do i have any other options? I don't want to install WiFi NIC's in the desktops as i am always plugging machines in/out and need a cabled connection up there...

Dang it, I already knew this but it's an arse pain! Think I might get a 20m cat6 cable and go around the outside of the house I guess.

Thanks for confirming my fears guys ;)
