Hey guys itching to upgrade, its probably not worth the investment but what really is at this level of hardware lol.

Im currently running an i7 3770k on a maximus V formula board

Ive got 8gb gskill ddr3-12800

2 x r9 290 crossfire.

So i started thinking about Nvidias next GPU as the next gfx upgrade but thats mid next year. So what im thinking is that there might be a reasonable upgrade to make to the ageing 3770k, probably need to do CPU mobo and ram too but what would be worth doing? as i havent looked into core system specs in ages. Probably limited to about 600 quid at the min definitely no X cpus lol

Any advice guys?

Either of these 2 will be fine. If you're planning on adding a second GPU within the lifetime of this upgrade then go X99, otherwise stick with Skylake

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £991.05
(includes shipping: £11.10)

I'd probably stick with the core you've got and maybe go for a new case, CPU cooler, fans etc which you can keep next time you upgrade the MB, CPU and graphics cards in the future.

Agree. To be honest Ultra Extreme doesn't need a upgrade.

If you really want you can upgrade your cpu to x99 platform but dont go for skylake cpu as they are only 4 cores vs 6 cores on x99 (5920k) so if you go for skylake you will notice minimal performance gain in video rendering. Btw if you game and do some rendering just keep what you got, no really need to upgrade.

Thanks guys, yeah this is reallyu why i asked, i knew i was already quite high end but wasnt sure if there was a worthwhile generational leap.

Im already in a dogs proverbials case (corsair obsidian 900D) have a nice closed loop cooler and the mainboard does pretty much everything i need. I also have 6 4Tb media disks installed and RAID 0 with 2 500gb samsung evo drives....

So i guess there is nowhere to go for anything approaching reasonable money. I just wait on some new cards then i guess and maybe buy up another 8gb ram!
