Hi, being bored of reading MCP/windows based books and recently getting a new macbook (to go with my other mac) its given me a burst and I thought I tickly the grey brain cells with a mac based book.

I'm fully aware of the dummies guides but in the past I found them very long winded and would prefer something more of the microsoft self paced training kits.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I have bought "Mac OS X The Missing Manual" (Tiger Edition) by David Pogue. It's quite big at around 850 pages.

I have have found it very useful, but I don't know how it compares to others on the market.

That is a very good book but If you've already got some OS X experience then a reasonable portion of it will be old ground.

Yes, the first part seems to be elementary stuff - but not to me as Mac newb. :)

I bought The Mac OS X Tiger Book by Andy Ihnatko when I first switched to OS X.

The cat's out of the bag, and Andy Ihnatko gives you a hundred reasons to fall in love with the Tiger. Packed with sage advice -- and plenty of humor -- this beefy volume holds your hand through installing Tiger, helps you diagnose and cure common problems, introduces you to more shortcuts than you ever imagined, and provides tips on everything from using Spotlight to choosing a tattoo. It's not only the greatest Mac OS X guide ever, it's surely the most entertaining.

It might be too basic for some people though. Get yourself down to a bookshop and have a flick through some.

i'll second this one - I have the panther one and although I have yet to get round to buying the tiger edition I have read through bits of it and it is really good!
