best page file settings ?

Ive got 4GB of DDR2 ram running on my win xp x64 pc , i think ive set a seperate page file area of around 3gb on a seperate physical drive but is this actually needed with 4GB of ram installed ?

what will give the better performance for loading games and that, a system managed page file or a manually set up one ?

I believe most people used to think a value of like 2 and a half times your ram back in the old days.... but now most people believe that leaving windows to manage it (size I mean) is the best (obviously if possible on its own drive / partion).

ah right so really i should disable my manually set up and go for system managed on the OS drive ( C: ) for better performance ?

I'd just leave it to manage itself personally. You can over-tinker sometimes.

System managed size on a separate drive.

set it to 'system managed'

in xp and 2k, this isn't the default setting.

i think the optimal size is 1.5x of physical mem

but system managed as other have said should be ok. i have mine on a different hd from the os
