Now there are so many on the market that im a bit unsure where to go with this.

My requirements are:

1 - Fun offline racing with Championships (ideally based on real life) vs the AI

2 - Online racing that is simple to connect to via a lobby and has lots of races open everyday, not locked to private or require a membership etc to get into

Im assuming Raceroom is the best way to go, but its a bit confusing as to what the best package they have is. I mean on Steam its like 100+ quid to get the whole lot and that seems a bit dramatic.

Assetto Corsa and Project Cars are both good, both didn't have many cars/tracks when I last played them though, not sure if that may have changed by now? :)

For a pure motorsport experience I'd go with Raceroom. I absolutely love it.

For sports cars I'd go with Assetto Corsa.

I've yet to give online a try yet. I stick to playing offline. I may give it a try soon though.

Check out the raceroom thread.

Assetto Corsa online is pretty lackluster, lack of rotation gets boring but I suppose if you know the server admin or run one yourself it would be better but I get tired of finding a server with 1) slots 2) cars that I want to drive 3) track that I want to drive 4) isn't in a race session already.

Single player probably fits your requirements just fine though.

To be honest the only decent online racing you will find outside leagues is Iracing but it's really expensive and the only offline play is test sessions by yourself.

while I'm unsure on the online aspect as ive simply not touched it, offline is really good, and theres a lot of varied content out of the box, of very high quality

plus ac,pcars etc don't have stadium supertruck, or race trucks (150mph~ haulage race trucks :D )

tbh the best answer is to get them all in sales

iracing will give you best online racing, but is £tons

There isn't really a game out there that excels in both of those areas. If you want a fun offline racing game then Project Cars has a fun career with lots of cars and circuits which progresses, but it's online racing is pretty bad. For online nothing beats IRacing, but like others have said, it's very expensive. If you catch it right you can find nice deals for subscription so keep an eye open.

Automobilsta is my favourite offline sim, mostly play Iracing, but I haven't played it since I got my rift, hope they add support to it soon. I hear that online is pretty dead outside leagues though. I think your right, there is no one sim that covers all requirements.

Asseto Corsa for a more 'realistic' driving experience, or Forza Horizon 3 for open world fun.

Forza Horizon 3 is sooo dam good I have it up there as my game of the year, it's brilliant
