Been with AOL for years now without any major hassles up till now.

Since CPW have taken them over, in the last 14 days or so, I'm getting dropped connections and seriously slow download speeds if I even manage to get connected.

So I'm looking at moving.

At present, I'm paying £29.95 per month for a "supposed" 8 Mb speed with AOL.

On a good day, I can get @6-7Mb speeds as far as downloads go.

I'm looking for a new ISP though, any recommendaions?.

Need fast speed, not bothered about the price.

Thanks in advance of any assistance. :)

If you can get Be* in your area I would recommend them as an ADSL provider. I have been with them now for about 6 months and no problems whatsoever.

If not and you want ADSL then I would probably suggest an Enta reseller such as ADSL24, Titan etc.

Edit- Seeing as you say you don't care about price, I would also suggest having a look at Zen :)

Absolutely does my brain in. I wouldn't recommend (300 meg limit over 5 hours?! :shudders: ).

Moot point but as price isn't an issue that'd be 3GB/5 Hrs peak time for similar money and 20mbit the rest of the time but yea if you're on anything lower than XL you may as well give up downloading anything major during 5pm and 9pm.

Draeger what ISP options do you have in your area ? (LLU and cable) Samknows would be a good place to check first.

I have Be* and am very happy with the service.

I live something like 500m from my exchange and get the full Sync speed, customer support has been good. Low pings in games and no traffic shaping or management or caps etc. All in all very good, and even better now its only £18 a month, really hope it stays that way :)

Only thing is the included router is a bit pants IMO, but you can replace that with a decent netgear one for under £100 easily.

Is that Be Pro, the 24 Mb one?.

Just looked at their website and it says £22 per month?.

Still good value for the money though, compared to what I am paying at the moment with AOL, as long as the service and product is good, obviously.

The Pro service gives you higher upload by reducing the download speed (annex M as its known)...but you might prefer that to having 24mb\1.3mb up though.

I am just on the regular Be* Unlimited option, I did try Be Pro for the first month that I was on with them although found that the extra upload cut my downstream from 24Mbit down to about 17ish and as I do far my downloading than uploading I decided to change.

Cheers for that m8.

Yep, that looks interesting and worth looking into.

I'm wondering if there is a way I will be able to tell what my max possible/predicted download speed would be with them once their LLU service goes live at my exchange in April?.

BT says at present on my current ADSL line I can get "up to" 8Mbit, but I usually get anything between 5-7Mbit download speeds.

As with regular ADSL it can depend entirely on line quality and distance from the exchange, although if you get a good sync with standard ADSL ADSL2+ should be significantly higher in most cases. Be* might be able to give you an estimate, although as I said it *should* be higher than what you have right now, and at any rate the network you are connecting to will be significantly better than AOL :p

My friend who lives only another 100m up the road from me however *only* gets 18Mbit downstream on the same package :)

Really depends if your exchange is unbundled.
If you can get be or ukonline adsl 2 then your sorted.
If not then it is just resold BT connections.

Virgin cable is good if you can get it, not totally unrestricted but there limits are easy to live with.
