I'm looking for some reading glasses, with all the bells and whistles;

Scratch Resistant
Blue Light Filtering
UV Lens Protection
Anti-Reflective Coating

I'm used to wearing glasses for distance viewing.. I just need reading glasses for when I'm wearing contacts and need to read something close up..

my head is larger than normal and all the ones I've seen in shops kinda look girly.

Any suggests for an online store?

to test your eyes? are you srs?
we have two independent opticians our town as well as a spec savers both have a good rep compared to spec savers, maybe look for an independent in your local area?
FWIW, have you considered lazer treatment? my youngest son had lazer treatment, and now has 20/20 vision

My current pair is from Specsavers, but I've previously bought pairs from Glasses Direct (online shop). They've got a decent selection of frames, compared to Specsavers IMO.

You should be able to select all of the bells and whistles that you've listed when you pick a frame.

I didnt even read his post and still knew what he meant..
before being given a pair of reading specs, he would still need to be tested with his contacts in, you don't just roll up at a spec shop, and get given a pair of reading specs that you fancy, that will work perfectly, lol.

Thanks... I just got a new pair of oakleys and raybans for distance... I just need something for reading. as I opt'd not to go for varifocals as I'm barely a +1.

You do know that high street shops, supermarkets and even pound shops sell reading glasses? It's kinda of a non event that once you get to 40+ people's eyes get lazy and need maginfaction to help with reading.

On Glasses Direct, you're able to select the vision type that you need when you pick a frame, including reading, and then either fill in your prescription or send it later.

Blue light filtering glasses are over-hyped in my opinion, they always make my eyes feel weird. Very expensive, and always made me feel like I'd wished I'd avoided them.

..so you could work out your prescription in the supermarket and then order on line if you want special sauces on the sausages.

personally use vari-focals which I wouldn't trust an online store to fit (even if they send you frames first to establish how they will fit on face)
to avoid the hassle/vanity of putting on reading glasses in restaurants/supmkts, as many do.
For sun/sport/driving Oakley flaks I have are just distance one, varis wouldn't necessarily work for sport and oakleys varis are poorer quality / £££.

Former optician here (before I realised I'd have 40-50 years of being face-to-face with people who brush their teeth for their dentist, but forget to do it for an eye test)...

Since you only want reading specs to wear whilst using contacts, you don't need a pair made to an exact prescription. Your latest eye test will show your distance RX, with an additional amount for reading (+1.50/+2.0/+2.5 etc). You can also ask for your Pupil Distance ("PD"), but for simple readers, it's not massively important.

Your reading specs simply need to be that additional magnification, so there's no need to pay silly amounts. The relevant coatings are UV (which includes blue light) & Anti Reflection (the latter is automatically scratch resistant, so don't pay extra for that), and don't waste money on higher index (thinner) lens materials.

Have a look at goggles4u.co.uk, glasses direct, Amazon and even AliX/Shein. You'll soon end up with a pair for each room of the house and jacket pocket, just like my Dad...

Thank you… a voice of reason, some people think I just woke up one morning and decided I need specs myself.
My optician said the same thing, I can manage when I wear my distance specs as I can just take them off but I can’t keep taking out my contacts all the time.

I’ve been to serval high street shops and just find the range that they offer rather limited and my head is kinda big.

And yes, I want a pair for my car, work office locker and my home office in case I ever need to read something up close when I’m wearing contacts.
