Heya guys.

I currently started to buy new Ice for my car and i started with a set of 17" rear speakers which come with components and tweaters.

I got it all wired up and working. But when listening to music i seem to find the front is a lot louder than the back, which is never used to be like that.

Im just wondering if i placed my tweaters in the best place.

This is a close up of the read speaker shelf, the tweaters are under the bit behind the speaker grills.

This is the same area from a wider angle.

Will i get the best sound from my tweaters under the plastic or is there a better location for them?

did they not come with little domes? most people put the tweeters at the front of the car..

as for the rear being quiet..

on your head unit there should be some balance settings..

move the sound to the rear and left slightly to give the effect of you being central in the car ;)

What do you mean little domes, They came with lots of different brackets for putting them anywhere.

I will set the balance more to the back in the morning i hope it helps.

they are like little covers so you can surface mount them... just my late night ramblings.. lol

but yeah.. most people mount them either in the front door cards or dash/a-pillars

adjusting the balance will defo help..... remember slightly to the left also.. as you are sitting to the right of the car closest to the right hand speakers :)

Well i am going to get a set of 17" for the front also which will have tweaters also :)

Where is the best location to put them in the back?

where you have circled would be fine.. but surface mount them.. as under there would be in the boot?.. if im looking at it right lol..

so you have a set of components in the back and going to have a set in the front?

not ya typical install :p

you planning on getting a sub anytime? you got amps to run your components? :)

Ok ill try them on the surface, Is it best to mount them on top or make a hole for them?

I already got a basic amp in the car, but it aint the best. I will be getting a new and anp sub also when i get the cash together :)

id just mount them ontop.. or place them there for now and test it out.. see how it sounds :)

oh and do you mean 17cm speakers by the way?...

does your head unit have a seperate sub out connection? as ive found this helped loads when i set my lil system up.. cutting all the low stuff from my speakers and pretty much all of it coming from the sub and amp.. sounded much nicer :)

woohoo my 1000th post :p

hehe, gratz on your 1k post, Ill let you know how it goes in the morning.

Is there any paticular direction that is best, facing a little up or down?

facing towards the main cabin of the car would probs be best :)

ill check back tomoro.. im off to bed

nn mate :)

did anyone recommend you put tweeters in the back or was that your idea? the drawback with that is that as you spend most of the time in the front of the car the sound has further to travel and hence wont sound as good/loud. perfect for those sitting in the back though...

Tweeters in the rear is a no go, rears could sound louder for several reasons, the soundstage is going to be so messed up with your current setup, tweeters work by lifting the sound up out of the front footwells, otherwise your audio will seem very flat, after all our ears are on our head not feet.

In theory you should put them as close to the coax's as possible, in the same alignment. You can experiment with their angle a bit...

You shouldn't really be able to hear the rears, there is supposed to be a front bias, you should use the rears just to flesh it out a little.
Not only are you sitting much closer to the fronts, you are listening to 2 channel stereo, which is supposed to come at you from the front, not rear :)

If you have a sub the rears should be irrelevant, I only run rears when I have the subs out (for the bass)

A lot of professionals put tweeters at ear level in the A pillars, facing across the screen at each other. It's also however probably the hardest place to put them and requires a custom fibreglass build. Due to this most people just put them in the backs of the door mirrors, you might lose some of the staging but for most people it's still more than acceptable quality.

Ok just out my bed, gonna go try the tweaters in a different location see what they sound like.

Ill keep ya informed.

Ok update Found a nice location that seems to increase the sound level a lot better.

Left side

Right Side

Ive got the one on the left facing towards the right - passanger seat.

Ive got the one on the right facing towards the left - drivers seat.

What do you guys think of putting them here, the sound level seems a lot better since ive moved them.

You should ditch the rear tweeters totally, the contribute nothing positave to your car audio.

Take the two front tweeters and mount them on your dash close to the A pillar or on the mirror backs :)
