Best place to find a builder?

www.trustatrader.co.uk and order by reviews. Never let me down but a personal recommendation should always approached first if possible.

The best solution would be to ask friends/family but depending on the work thats not always possible.
I used the site www.ratedpeople.com
Stick the job you want doing on there and people will get back to you to arrange quotes etc. From memory the builders have to pay to access your details so at least you're likely to only get calls from people who can do the work.

I prefer to ask friends/family for recommendations.
Also there's a website called Trust A Trader i believe which is supposed to be good/useful.

+1 for personal recommendations or friends etc if you know them.
Luckily through friends or family I have access to a gas fitter, plumber, builder, general handyman, electrician and window fitter. Well covered and they do a good job because they can't escape if they don't

You need to be careful with friend/family recommendations as you need to be sure that the builder is the right guy for your job. E.g. Its no good being recommended someone who has done a good conservatory if your after a 2 story extension.

Ring around your local builders & the 2 companys/builders that say they can't come round for ages because they are snowed under are the dudes you want to wait for.
Anybody that you ring that can come round in the next couple of days ignore. Anybody that says they can start the job within a month, Ignore them as well.
