best place to get domain names

hi all, was thinking of buying a domain and making website and changing emails as my hotmail getting overrun with spam and junk.
was wondering where is best place to get/buy domain name.
ive seen loads when i google but which can i trust? is any better than others etc

123 reg have been the best for me

avoid 1&1 like the plague

Namecheap for a domain is less than $10 with free whois protection and they have a free SSL cert offer on at the mo.

They have free email forwarding in the price as well so you can forward to your ISP email if you want

Buying a domain name costs peanuts tbh. Just bought a .com I've been after for a while for £5 (2 years).

Hosting varies as it depends on what you want. You can even get free hosting with PHP/MySQL support for free - 000webhost.com.

basically want domain name to get my own email, but would like in future to play around with making site and putting my photography and odds/sods.
saw a few domain names where domain was £0 is that to be trusted or better of paying, there must be a catch somewhere but cant see anything on the sites.

I'd like to know too - bought about 10 domains with 1&1 over the past 5 years odd and never had any problems.

I get all my domains from 123reg.co.uk. They are cheap, easy and reliable!

I use 123reg personally, but have used http://www.dream-hosting.co.uk/ and http://www.vidahost.com/ for customers.

VidaHost is really smart, has a superb cPanel and is very easy to configure!

I used this to help with my decision.

Used 1&1 for a number of years now, have my personal, my company and other friends / family with them, never had a major problem.

Only small thing I've had is sometime a slowness in emails, but unsure if that was 1&1 or Virgin Media.

went with 1&1 in hte end, will use for email for now and set up site at later date.
