Anyone know of a good (and free) site to start learning R? I have some programming experience in VBA and HTML/CSS but looking to learn R as it seems the most useful route to go down for data analytics careers

I've enjoyed the format of Codacademy's courses with short lessons followed by excercises/tests, ideally would be looking for something similar!

Ok - R is really just a language. If you want a data career you will need to understand the fundamentals in maths/statistics too.

I work at a bank, being responsible for a set of workstreams that have data science. I've rejected data scientist CVs that have included "median" for example, so it tends to be more understand the approach they have used; the maths tools and why. In use it's being able to take a structured rigorous approach even if the initial approach is skunkworks.

If you have that - great, but you will find that it's a tool rather than a solution.
