Best practice after clean install

So I've just had to replace a ssd so have a clean windows install, normally I just go ahead and start throwing everything back on without a thought for creating an image and so on so what does everyone else do?

And set Power Options to High Performance (on gaming PCs)

I would clone the image so that you can have it running again in seconds before installs of crud and standard software begins.

Update everything. Install all drivers, disk cleanup - remove restore points.
