I have a Asus free sync monitor 1440p

I currently have a r9 280x that's starting to show its age what's the best price to performance card. I've not looked into pc parts for quite a while

Doesnt support Freesync though. I imagine he was looking for a Freesync supported card hence why he mentioned it.

As it will be the high end one I doubt it will have a high price/performance ratio

OP asked for best price/perf at the moment, he didn't specify new or 2nd hand.

Buying AMD atm would not be a sound choice due to upcoming releases ( resale value will be hit when Vega arrives in 6 months time )

The best new current price/perf is the 1070 ( will be a solid performer still in 12months time )

The ideal, if you need Freesync, is a 980TI 2nd hand and wait for AMD Vega next year
