Best processor around the 100 mark

Hi there i currently run a:

Asus 6800 GT 256 Mb
Amd 3500+ 64bit

I'm upgrading on wednesday well today since it's 2am xD.
Anyway i'm looking for the best processor for around 100 pound i was told the:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz 1066FSB LGA775 2MB
£ 119.11

was my best bet ? but was a suggestion by a friend who hasn't much experience unlike a lot of you guys so i came here to ask.

I'll be getting the: BFG GeForce 7950GT OC 512MB DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI - £ 206.80. Also along with it. And a motherboard compatible with the best processor you can suggest. Thanks in advance as always.

Yeah for around £100 the E6300 is the best choice.

Look at the DS3/4 or P5B Deluxe for good motherboars for the E6300.

You will need ram too unless am blind and you said you got/getting it aswell.

i'm just upgrading mobo,gfx card and cpu, i currently have 3 512mb geil sticks DDR, but yeh another question please, which is probably stupid but does DDR memory work in DDR2 mobos like the DS3 ?

there is a asrock mobo that takes ddr aswell as ddr2 but in general most core2 mobos are ddr2 only
