Hi all,

It's payday tomorrow, which means it's a perfect time for an upgrade!!

I'm upgrading the PC in my sig and tomorrow I'm probably going for a 74gb Velociraptor and a 4870x2!

The 4870x2 is probably a bit of overkill, but is VERY tempting and I'll be using dual monitors quite often (I'm assiming a dual core graphics card will be usefull?)

A few questions before I hit buy (my basket is aready packed!);

1. Will a 600w PSU have enough power?

2. Im assuming there wont be any compatability issues? (this is a question!)

3. I'll be upgrading again in a month or so, probably mobo and cpu. mobo is looking like a new ASUS X48, but I'm a bit behind with processors! I'm pretty sure a Dual Core will be fine, but I'm not sure which one! (again, a question!)

As you will probably guess, the computer is mostly used for gaming (Cod4), and im eagerly awaiting CoD5, Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2...

any help/suggestions would be welcomed!!

Cheers!

What res do you play at and do you plan to upgrade your monitor in the near future? As far as the CPU for gaming the E8600 seems like a good choice as its the new revision but it depends on your budget really. They all will work but E8xxx is your best bet for gaming.

If it were me honestly I would buy a E8600 and either a 4870 or a GTX280( I mention the 280 since you mentioned Crysis and from what I have read Nvidia has a pretty decent advantage in this game but dont quote me on that). Really your MB is perfectly find and you will get good performance from it with the wolfie. I would rather save the cash to put it towards a system overhaul down the road as the new Intels will require ya to buy the CPU and new sock MB and ram(im assuming DDR3 but not quite sure).

Hope this helps some.

Considering the Q9550 and Q9450 are the same price on OcUK at the moment, it would be a tad silly not to go with a Q9550 :p

Perhaps just a cpu upgrade in a month then!

I game at 1680 x 1050, which I know probably isnt high enough to warrant a 4870x2, but I may well be upgrading my monitor in future (currently a 20" SyncMaster). And I will definitely be using dual screens with my 32" HDTV. Surely one of these almost warrants a 4870x2?? - I could well upgrade my monitor with my cpu in a month or so, once I get back to uni and see how cluttered my desk looks!!

Cheers for the help guys, I'll be coming home at dinner time today and wil be ordering then, about 12:30. Any more suggestions? and please, someone make me feel less bad about the 4870x2 :D
