I fancy trying to make some "beats". Is there any program out there that stands out for noobys like me to throw a few samples together?

cheers!

One of the main one is Cubase - it can be a bit complex but if you can work it out it is good.

You could try fruity loops or Sony Acid pro for beginners.

I use a combination of Reason 4, Metasynth 5, Reaktor 5, Logic 9 and Renoise...

There are so many apps out there for this, just choose whatever one you prefer!

If you just want to use samples, I think there are even some free opensource apps like Audacity which can do this, Logic would be overkill....

as others have said, reason/cubase and fruityloops but they aint cheap! acid is good to start on but you cant really make your own beats without VST's (native instruments seem to be a strong contender in this area)

FL Studio (fruity loops) Producer edition is very good, it's simple to use but can do loads of stuff the pro stuff can do like Cubase. I use it and its great.;)

I too was interested in this, so I e-mailed a UK EBM band a while back (CeDigest), the main guys reply was:

Ok, when I was using windows I ran FL with reason rewired.

Reason is great for strings and FL is good for harsh synthesis due to the good fx plugins.

I guess it depends on what kind of "beats" your going for, but FL is pretty useful, I'd say go with that and experiment with the others if you need to :)
