About to watch a .mp4 on EEE PC running XP. Only problem is i havent got any programs to watch it on. Any recommendations? Thanks

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema.

I used VLC for a long time but after trying MPC I won't be going back to VLC any time soon. It seems far more reliable and less resources hungry than VLC

Yep, either VLC or MPC will play virtually anything. MPC is arguably more reliable but I prefer the interface of VLC.

The latest build of VLC is stable after a slight wobble. It's handled everything I throw at it apart from hi-def rips and VP7 format files.

I like MPC, and MPC home cinema handles hi-def (e.g. Matroska) files very well. My only gripe, and it's almost a non-gripe is that MPC needs to switch Aero off to work. (EDIT - just MPC that does this oddly enough).

GOM player is pretty good, but doesn't do anything extra I can't do in VLC.

Might try MPC again. The Aero thing is going to annoy me, though, since I tend to watch videos windowed on my second monitor whilst doing other stuff.

(edit) Just downloaded the latest MPC-HD and it hasn't disabled Aero on Vista 64 :)

(edit2) Not as efficient as VLC though. Uses 20% of one core compared to VLC's 4% on the same video, not that that really matters!
