Best PS3 LCD?

I seem to remember everyone going crazy for the Samsung LCD's for the 360? I'm updating my setup for the PS3 so what TV's would you recommend? Can only go 32" (room isn't big enough for anything else - booooo) so was thinking the new Sony KDL32V2500 as it has 1:1 pixel mapping for PC input. I know it's not 1080p but I can't see many 32" screens that are!?

Suggestions? What are you PS3 importers using?

When I read this I'm not sure where this should be posted? TV's, PS3 or PC.

sony bravia blah blah blah :p

nah

i think the samsungs where always mentioned because you could always get good deals on them

they're also a great screen for the price

id go with one of them to be honest because theyre still damn good and are cheaper than the sony screens

I expect soon after or near to the march release sony will release a PS3 recommended LCD screen, Just like they used Bravia for Sky HD. As a ploy to make more money, ontop of the outrageous price for the PS3 :p . Most 32" LCD screens arent 1080p, because the eye cant see a difference, on such a small screen.

a lot of people argue that 1080p is useless on a screen below 40", their opinion not mine.

Which ever LCD you go for, just make sures its got relevant connections that you need, and a few for the future such as HDMI etc.

Samsung are probaly the best value for money, where as the processing engine in Sony Bravia's, is supposed to give a better picture, especially in SD.

hope this helps

Do they have 1:1 pixel mapping?
Have to be honest I think the Samsungs are the best looking set but pixel mapping is important for me. The Sony is one of only a few I've found that will do it. I agree on the price front, I'd love to save cash but not at the expense of features.

I think ive heard it does. But it depends on which set. i'm fairley sure it does over VGA. But dont hold me to that! try a forum search on here, and if that doesnt help. Post on AV forums- loads of people in the know over there.

Samsungs are popular because they are cheap. Get on AVForums and look around for recommendations. Just bear in mind that there is no perfect TV and you REALLY, no REALLY must see one in the flesh before you buy it. Interweb recommendations are not enough.

Edit: LGs are well known for their PC support and 1:1 mapping via VGA and HDMI as well. They accepts 1360/1366 *768 1:1 mapped via a DVI -> HDMI adapter. Worth a look at least :)

Thanks Benny06 much appreciated.
Anyone tell me if the Samsungs are capable of 1:1 pixel mapping?
See above.

The samsungs support 1:1 via VGA only and only support strange resolutions via HDMI/DVI.

Hope that helps. :)

Edit: Seriously, check out AVForums!

But they are still very useful. I think the screens to consider are:
Samsung - cheap and cheerful
Sony - Decent quality SD and sure fired to go with your PS3
LG - brilliant SD engine and quality and not too expensive
Panasonic - Some of the best quality screens out there but with a premium price tag as with Sony.

Didn't mean cheap to sound negative there mate :)

I agree with a lot said in your post.

Samsung LCD's are unbeatable for the price imo. £470 for a 26" or £580 for a 32". Looks stunning, and the picture and colours it produces are even more stunning that it looks. I may be biased because i have one, but its not all lies :D

How many have you compared though? A competitor let me hook up a 360 to their screens (I knew a guy working there :p ) and that helped with my choice an awful lot.

The more research I do the more the plot thickens. Seems the Samsungs will perform 1:1 pixel mapping over VGA on the 40" sets & above. No mention of the 32"'s...

Beginning to get frustrated with this. Don't want to spend more than I have to but at the same time don't want to end up with a screwed PC display.

Why isn't this sort of detail included in specs? Surely manufacturers are aware that we consumers have to think about this else why are some of the biggest selling points for TV's the connectivity options

My samsung 26" does one to one pixel mapping through VGA. The only thing is, the resolution through VGA is 1360x768 whereas the screen is 1366x768. This means that 3 pixels in width either side of the picture aren't used. Not really a problem if you ask me and definitely not noticeable.

Agreed!

Just had the benefit of a demo of the Sony KDL32V2500 & Samsung LE32N73BDX side by side.
I agree with what most people say here about the Samsung being a great set however... The colours appear richer on the Sony (maybe down to settings), the Samsung had definite motion blur issues that the Sony didn't (I doubt any settings would have changed this & when considering PS3 & PC FPS's it's not ideal), also on the picture quality front the Samsung had a few "jagged edges" when looking at text on a HD feed.
Sound isn't an issue for me as I'm going to put it through a home cinema system but again the Sony is clearly better.
Had I not had the benefit of seeing the 2 side by side I would be placing an order for the Samsung as it is very good & the price suits however the Sony is comparable to a CRT. It's just that good.

So decision made it's a Sony KDL32V2500 for me (even though I prefer the look of the Samsung). I appreciate picture quality is a personal preference but what I've just seen & the definite 1:1 pixel mapping for my PC input make it a no brainer. Just got to convince the missus that £1k plus for a 32" LCD is worth it.

Thank you all for your help.
