Single Player? Doom... no competition there. Though Far Cry 4 is pretty good, I have the PC version. The Metro games are also good, but can be punishingly hard at times, not for everyone. It's very immersive and has an aspect of realism to the gameplay, ammo is scarce and there's options to play even more hardcore in Ranger mode. I also have this one on PC. Crysis 3 (did it even come out on PS4?) is also one of my favourite single-player FPS games.
A lot of folks are saying Killzone Shadowfall... while it seems kinda average, it's also very cheap so it's well worth the price. Not to mention the visuals are amazing. Only reason I don't have it is because I've not even got through all the PS4 games I already have (no point buying it if I can't get around to playing it lol).
But multiplayer... hmm. I'd say Planetside 2 (free to play), but having played both versions (it first came out on PC), the PS4 version just seems limited compared to the PC version. Various vehicles are locked behind levelling-up, for example. But it really is a unique experience unlike any other game out there and the game itself is very well balanced. Weapon unlocks are all side-grades (each has it's niche), some of the default weapons are among the best in the game and the only place it get's close to pay-to-win is the vehicles. But even there it's pretty good (I missed the default tank cannon when I got the AP version).
Rainbow 6 Siege is a very fun game though, the single player is barebones and there's only really one multiplayer mode, but most folks who have played it have really enjoyed it. I liked what I played of it, but I can't see myself playing it much (hence I don't own it).
Battlefield 4 (or 1 if you want WW1 settings) is also available very cheap these days, it's the closest thing to Planetside 2 in a non free-to-play format. However I do find that the balance isn't as good (some weapons are outright better), especially for vehicles. Unlike PS2, there are limited numbers of vehicles, you have to get lucky to get in a plane. The worst part is that it has micro-transactions on top of DLC (whereas PS2 is free-to-play with no DLC) and this means the unlock system is very RNG based. I don't like it since it can make attachments and things hard to unlock. The small single player campaign is a short bit of fun though and the game overall is fun to play online. And I usually hate competitive online FPS games (Planetside 2 will always be the exception), Battlefield 4 was still fun for me.
I personally can't stand Destiny, it's too much like a grindy MMO to me and it's full of money-grubbing BS like micro-transactions (on top of paid expansions) and such. But if you like FPS mixed with MMO... then go ham on it.
