Best Quality & Smallest Video Codec ?

Hey guys,

I'm starting to do some game demo's on my PC and after using MSI Afterburn the file is 5:45 long but huge 2.76Gb

I made it record in MJPG Compression, and i wanna upload to youtube but obviously 2.76gb is huge.

So what is the best codec to use and is there a free program around that will let me convert from MJPG to a good codec ?

I like MKV

Handbrake to compress. It'll also compress to mp4

MKV is actually a container...

Do you mean x264?

MJPEG Is not even really a proper video codec. MJPEG is Motion JPEG, so it's effectively just a JPEG photo taken xx times a second and played back in order.
If you are clocking 100fps in game, and are running 1920x1200 then you can see why you ended up with a massive file size!

x264 is 100% the way to go.

Well, as said MJPG is Motion JPEG, it is a video format in which each video frame or interlaced field of a digital video sequence is separately compressed as a JPEG image.

You could try the x264 or aneesoft, but before encoding, this is worth a reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_JPEG#Encoding
