Hi all,

I've used a Logitech K270 since...well...since the Roman army was around. Unfortunately it if finally giving up the ghost. Space bar starting to not work and it's even missing a few keys.

It's time to upgrade...
  • Looking for cheap. I'm not a £300 keyboard user. I game a bit, I work a bit. I guess maybe £50?
  • Looking for quiet. Is it called 'membrane'? Would like to reduce the noise from typing. I've never had a mechanical keyboard just this bog standard K270 so even now it's not 'clack clack clack' but i'd love something softer.
  • Wireless preferred
  • No LEDs or bling.
Is there a good go-to keyboard for this? I've searched and seen some Logitech g915 posts but that is £180 :( is there a poor mans version?

Thanks

G915 won't be quiet. For that you really want an electro capacitive keyboard. Niz Atom, or one of their other products would be my suggestion. They also do wireless. You can get them from Epomaker for £120 (wired version). Highly recommended if you want something quiet.

Logitech k290, if you can find one.

Out of production unfortunately, but I stockpiled a couple.

You might be able to grab one from a bay type place.

It's late, but alternative options for silent keyboards (somewhat quieter than that of the Logitech MK295 that was chosen by Vanilla) are:

Logitech (K740) Illuminated Keyboard (wired). This one is probably the most quiet of them all (as the keys are also surrounded by some felt around each key, which helps baffle sounds coming from it and reduces the chance of you hitting the keys too hard to create noise from the impact, but the issue is that it's wired (USB), has backlit lighting behind each key but it's white only, and it has some poor N-Key Rollover (including lack of Shift + W + Space, which was specifically disabled). And of course, in the UK, you're looking at £70 odd to grab one new.

Logitech MX Keys (S). This one is almost as quiet as the above one, as they both use Scissor Switches for the keys, but the construction of the base in this keyboard makes it "echo" a bit or enhances the sound made by key presses (this is because unlike the K740 tere's nothing under each keycap to help absorb the impact from the press). This results in the keyboard sounding "louder" (or more noticeably at least) than the K740 (when you hit the keys hard enough where the base transmits the sound out, so a suitable surface and desk is recommended to keep the noise to a minimum), even though they use the same switch type. This one is also wireless, backlit (and fixed some issues from the original MX Keys) and has decent N-Key Rollover allowing it to be used for gaming as well. And if you look around can be got for around £85. Do not get the original MX Keys version as that one is plagued by a host of issues where there's no obvious fix for the end user other than exchanging it out for another (goes for around £80 if you look around - so might as well cough the extra £5 up and get the better one).

But of course, these are also pricier than what OP asked for, so unsuitable for them. But if anyone is after a really silent keyboard, these are options available from the Logitech range.

The K740 is discontinued :(
Mine died nearly 2 years ago, and would have another if I could get my hands on one. The ones around are odd foreign layouts only.

The Cherry Stream is cheap, and has the same style of keys, but has more flex and nowhere near as good feel.

I use a Keychron K10. It does have rgb but theres an option to have a white backlight. Nice, understated, styling and really good to type on.

I’m probably similar to you in the sense that i got sick of rgb kit. Had mechanical Corsair, logitech and Steelseries keyboards previously and the Keychron is better than all of them.

I don't know why anyone is saying the Logitech 915/815 aren't quiet. I have the tactile version of the 815 and it is very quiet indeed. It is night any day compared to a budget standard red switch mechanical keyboard I also have. But yeah, 915/815 ain't cheap.
