Just got myself a new steering wheel (dfgt) and looking to get some racing games to enjoy on it.

So as title really what games do people recommend to get sim/arcade/single player /multiplayer all are fine as long as they are good games.

So what's the best racing games people.

Any help is much appreciated.

Heard good things about Assetto Corsa. I think it's still in beta or something like that but it's supposed to be good.

Another vote for assetto corsa, from what I've seen of it despite the lack of cars/tracks looks a good solid game. Keep in mind it is still in Beta.

I kind of like TDU2 still for a bit of cruising around the visuals are pretty decent and some fun cars to play with but race wise its a bit poor. The original GRID can be fun if you can get the wheel to work properly with it (for some reason it doesn't work too well on a lot of wheels).

yeah saw next car game, meant to be a modern take on the PlayStation classic destruction derby.

project cars, assetto corsa and next car game are the popular ones, all in beta... project cars cannot even be purchased until its released as well.

grid 2 is garbage, dirt 3 is not too bad ...

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
I have project cars, will look at asseto corsa
Was hoping for some games that are finished though and not going through alpha/beta stages.

For sim there's two standouts imo:

Assetto Corsa -- good physics (arguably the best, but I don't think there's a huge margin), pretty graphics and a good, and increasing selection of cars and tracks. But limited AI, no multiplayer and with what I've heard of their plans their multiplayer will still be second fiddle to iRacing, imo.

iRacing -- good physics with regular updates (for a 'complete' game, rather than the 'beta' of AC), possibly not quite the best physics but as said I think it's pretty close. Graphics are just ok, I don't mind so much when driving but certainly in pictures/videos it's noticeable. But the best aspect is the online/multiplayer setup, yes it's expensive in general but for non-league racing it's by far and away the best option, nothing else comes close.

pCARS is, imo, poor, graphically it's not significantly better than AC and physics/driving wise it's a step behind both AC and iRacing (and rFactor 2)

rFactor2, admittedly not tried in a while but seems to have the same 'issues' that plagued rFactor, mismatched versions/constant updating of mods, I just can't be bothered with that, I was something to 'just work'.

AC is by far the cheaper so worth picking up, but if you want good close racing at any time with 'randoms' then iRacing is the only option, just make sure you get out of rookie asap :p

Thanks skill that's some awesome info.

Looks like asseto corsa is shaping up to be a definite buy.

Will check out iracing and it's costs, any must have costs, packs, cars or is it just a simple monthly fee.

It's both a monthly sub and paying for content (cars/tracks)

Cars and Tracks are either $11.95 or $14.95 each one-off costs, some 'cars' come with variants (e.g. the RUF comes with a 4WD, RWD, 'Track' and 'C-Spec' variants), tracks obviously include multiple layouts. All tracks are laser scanned and the accuracy is only just being matched by AC, cars are all done in cooperation with the manufacturer/race team so they get data etc to make them accurate models.

Obviously there is some included content, iirc this is:
Street Stock and Legends oval cars
South Boston, Lanier, USA and Charlotte as free oval tracks (maybe Oxford Plains as well)
MX-5 Cup and Roadster, Pontiac Solstice, Spec Race Ford and Cadillac CTS-V road cars
Laguna Seca, Lime Rock Park, Summit Point Raceway and Okayama for free road tracks.

(I may have forgotten some there)

There are multiple series at different 'licence' levels (drive safely to increase licence, not a performance/results based level), but the Rookie series use only free content and I believe some of the other D-class series use predominantly free content.

Subscription is done in 1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 month bundles, most expensive 'per-month' is the 1 month obviously at $9, but going for the deals they do several times a year my last subscription was 24 months for $99 (~$4 a month). They also do deals almost constantly for 3 months for the price of 1 which is a good introduction, $9 is a nothing really and gives you long enough to get an idea of whether you like it or not, then I'd reccomend going for 12 month minimum really.

Wow thanks for all the info skill!,much appreciated.

Well been reading up on there site regarding costs and so on and some reviews and blogs.

Think I'm going to do exactly what you have said I'm gonna go for a 1month 6 dollars or 3 months for 15 dollars and see how I get on with it,so u can get new deals then once u have sighned up then? Don't want to get pulled into this game and be paying 172 dollars the. Have to buy cars every year!

Think I'm going to purchase asseto corsa today watched the video posted and a few others and it looks very good.

Anyone know of the cheapest place to buy it (steam key)?

I'd agree with pretty much all of what Skill said.

I don think pCARS is that bad, but since it's not out yet and you can't buy in anymore, it doesn't really matter. I think it will be a decent game when it's released later this year.

If you want to play online then iRacing is the only option.

It's relatively expensive, compared to other sims, and it does require a you to dedicate time to practice as well. But they way it's all organised you can't get that I'm any other sim unless you're in a private league.

The offers for existing members are a regular thing but only at certain times, the two I remember are on the anniversary of the public release (June/July time) and Black Friday, both times they do the 'cheap' 1 and 2 year subs. Also several other times they do offers to buy iracing credit at more than 1:1, so 100 dollars iracing credit for 75 dollars real money.

The 3 months for 1 are generally new members only.

Also if you let the sub lapse they will often, eventually, send an offer of some form to try and get you back.

Also if you do get sucked in, you get $5 credits for every full year membership, and also can earn $10 credits per seasons for participation (involves doing 2 full seasons). A season is 12/13 weeks so in a years sub you can earn $40 credit in theory, so if you were going to be buying content anyway it kinda works out cheaper, kinda :p

as mentioned already assetto is the car game of the moment and also richard burns rally which has mods upto 2014 which still make it one of the best.
