Best RAM for 10700k?

I intend to get a 10700k with a MSI MEG Z490 UNIFY ATX LGA 1200 mobo and cool the cpu with a Noctua NH-U12A fan.

I understand the CPU only recognizes up to just under 3,000 mhz RAM speed, but this can be improved upon by overclocking the RAM or by enabling XMP in the BIOS.

Therefore am I correct in thinking I could purchase 3,600 mhz RAM, enable the higher speed in the BIOS (which sounds similar to what I did to the RAM in my current 2600x) and then overclock this RAM even further should I wish to?

If so can someone please recommend specific RAM that would be suited to this?

With a Z board you can set it up to the board limit. Intel do consider this 'overclocking' the CPU when you enable XMP beyond stock.

Correct. Simple as selecting it in a drop down box.
I'd say something like 3200 C16 is more than enough for Intel and widely/cheaply available.

So any standard 3600 mhz DDR 4 RAM would be fine? I just pop it in and enable any speed above 3,000 in XMP?
According to the specs of your board it can support up to 4000 no problem, beyond that there are some stipulations. I'd personally buy something that is on the QVL, but it probably doesn't matter.

I don't know what comet lake CPUs themselves are like, I mean I don't know how high they can go on memory.

Done nearly exactly the same thing with my recent build. This was the ram... Specs in Sig. No issues at all. Ram running at 3600 C16. CPU is at 4800 all core. All I did was enable XMP in the BIOS and let the ASUS AI Suite do its thing. At one point did force the CPU to run 5.1 all core rather than just single boost. No issues but there was a noticeable increase in temps so for now didn't think it was worth it. Pretty sure I could manually tune the voltages lower to offset that but happy enough for now.
