hey guys

can someone tell me which is the best Ram for overclocking my i7 3770k?
I am interested in purchasing 16gb fg ram (preferably 2x8gb). I have been lead to believe that my ram, corsair vengeance is holding me back on better clocks.

Any info appreciated guys

Chris

Budget?
Samsung Green are fun :)

Though i'm not sure what you mean about the RAM holding back your CPU clocks...You're overclocking the CPU not the RAM.

Im suppose anything under 100 quid would be acceptable for 16gb...

When overclocking using the BLK as well as the Multiplier, the ram also overclocks.

Also. Im not convinced that this is the right ram for me. Im at 4.5ghz and finding it hard getting a higher stable clock.

Samsung ram you say? what type lol?

Chris

The RAM does not hold back CPU's clocks if your running the DIMMS at stock speed, timings and voltage. The CPU imc is rated at 1600mhz so if your within this it cant be holding by your CPU overclock.

RAM holds back efficiency though.

You if you're raising the BCLK you won't be able to raise it much anyway.

Which Ram do you recommend?

Im gonna get some anyway. Gonna end up getting a new mobo too.
Maybe the Asus Z77 Maximus V Extreme and a pre-made cystom watercooled case from Overclockers.

WIth the Maximus V you can go anything and it will get the best from them.

Test your IMC when you get the board and then you know what speed to plump for. Everything at auto, then try and post at 2400, 2600,2666, 2800,2933. When the post code display stops at 23 you know your IMC is incapable so get RAM to suit. If it stops at 55 the CPU can do teh frequency but your current RAM cant.

This helps you make an informed decision.

i.e no point in getting 2800mhz RAM if CPU can only do 2400.
