Will this RAM work with HP Proliant !?

Is this RAM good for the Sever?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-021-OK

The price is brilliant, just need to make sure It will work ?

Also, I want 4x2tb quiet, effective Hard Drives that work well with the HP Microserver and Freenas, I was going to get WD green drives but heard mixed reviews on the main thread, what is the best 2tb hard drive to use ?

Seriously Jakee, all this info is in the big thread. Just takes a little searching.

FWIW I used 4 x 2Tb Samsung F4 drives.

My memory can be found in the big thread, as can all the part numbers for everything I used including the drives.

why is it so specific, isn't it just ECC?

Yes its ECC. Depending on the model of the server decides which speed of memory is required, also the spread of the memory might need to be taking into consideration i.e can modules run on there own or do they need to be paired.

I think as a general rule your correct, but it looks from actual practise that plenty of different random RAM works fine in this server. Im using some non ECC bog standard crucial stuff in mine from OCUK.

Micro Server is the vital bit that is missing from the thread title! ProLiant is HP's entire server range.

I'm pretty sure all servers require ECC ram, So that ram might not be right.

Many small servers are based around what are effectively desktop chipsets and use unbuffered memory. Every server of this type I’ve seen has worked with non-ECC memory (PowerEdge SC430, PowerEdge SC440, PowerEdge 830, PowerEdge 840, ProLiant ML110, ProLiant Microserver).

'Real' servers use buffered memory which is only available with ECC (AFAIK) so there’s no choice.

I am certain that RAM will work as I bought RAM of the same spec [except 2*2GB modules] and they are seen in BIOS- although if you are just looking for 2GB then there should be some unbuffered ECC 1GB sticks on the bay, since people who go for the conventional desk top RAM will have removed the ECC RAM module. You could have my 1GB ECC for £10 [or someone elses for about the same price] and that would give you 2GB- can’t speak for the HDD as I fitted F3 1TB

I have 2 x 4GB non-ECC Kingston DIMMS in my Microserver without problems (KVR1333D3N9/4G). It definately doesn't support 'proper' server RAM as I tried some PC3-10600R (used in BL and DL G6s and G7s) and it wouldn't boot.

The hp's will only take ecc registeres stuff, and hard drive wise, if its one of their higher end server they usualy take their 2.5" drives rather than the 3.5's which means 2tb versions will cost you your grandmother.
