Ive heard that the Corsair Memory run on Promo ICs, will this affect me if im not overclokcing?

And where can i find some info on the different chip types eg. Promos, Hand Picked, D9s.

Thanks

Not at all, they just dont overclock as well as other better quality IC's as far as I'm aware.

If you do or dont intend on overclocking, I would suggest this Ram:-

Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Tenth Anniversary Dual Channel Kit (TY2KIT12864AA663)

Same price as the Crucial you chose, but these have tighter timings for non-overclocking, but are amazing if you do overclock!

Yes but are rated slower? why them.

Yes i know all about the overclocking capability

And thanks for that link not what i was looking for completly though.

More along the lines of that it explains whats the best type of chips something like that?

Out of those three specifically, the CellShocks.

Other alternatives that are serious contenders are the Crucial 10th and the Team Xtreems.

Hi i would just like to know out the the selections i have chosen below what would be the best RAM for a E6600 and ASUS-Deluxe System.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-000-CK Cellshock

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-124-CS Corsair

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-090-CR Crucial

Just out of them 3 thanks. Wont be overclocking though.

Why do you want PC2-6400 RAM if you're not overclocking at all?
They run at a default 800MHz when you'll be at 533MHz (PC2-4200 speed).

Actually nightic has a good point, save your money and get some PC4200 / PC5300. He means that you don't need faster memory if you don't plan on overclocking, you only need memory that will run in sync with the FSB (1:1).

lol i thought it would have have been the other way round

Overclokcing - get say 5300 and clock it to 6400-8000 speeds, saving money

Not Overclokcing - Get what you can afford 6400-8000 speeds

PC2-6400 RAM at stock runs at 800MHz.

Your E6600 has a 1066MHz bus so by default your RAM will be running at 533MHz (which is what PC2-4200 RAM is at stock).

Oh oh you learn something new everyday. Thanks

So for instance if i got some 6400 RAM, how much would i have to clock the FSB so my RAM actully runs at stock 6400 speeds (800mhz)

No, PC2-6400 RAM is for i.e. overclocking the CPU by raising the RAM speed to ~400MHz (or 800MHz by the conventions of 'double data rate'). At this speed the RAM itself is not overclocked.

What you're confusing it with is the recommendation that with an E6600 CPU (9x multi), it is unnecessary to run the RAM at much more than 400MHz as unless you have an especially good CPU or cooling then the CPU won't be capable of much more anyway (9x 400MHz = 3.6GHz).

To 400MHz (default is 266MHz).

I see i get that part. But

Mind explaining, im eager to learn :)

That bit is confusing me aswell? I would have to raise the RAM speed to 400mhz right to get 6400 stock speeds?

Whats the 266mhz FSB? Whats that have to do with it?

PC2-3200 200 MHz DDR2-400 3.200 GB/s
PC2-4200 266 MHz DDR2-533 4.267 GB/s
PC2-5300 333 MHz DDR2-667 5.333 GB/s
PC2-6400 400 MHz DDR2-800 6.400 GB/s

The CPU speed is determind by the default mutliplier x the default bus speed (with is 266MHz a.k.a 1066MHz 'quad pumped').
So the E6600 CPU as standard is 9x 266MHz = 2.4GHz.

As the Conroe CPUs (apart from the 'Extreme Edition' ones) have multipliers that cannot be raised then overclocking is achieved by raising the FSB.

So if running PC2-6400 RAM at standard you'll be overclocking the CPU to 3.6GHz (9x 400MHz).
(This is all assuming running 1:1 FSB:Memory).
