best ram to get for asrock fatal1ty m/b with I7 cpu?

yeah that would look good with my m/b so question... why do they sell ram in a 3 chip bundle 3 x 2gb chips if they should work in pairs?

Because the X58 chipset motherboards with S1366 processors are triple channel.

All the other mainstream platforms at the moment are dual channel.

The X58 boards and socket 1366 CPU's support Dual channel as well with a slight performance drop, but I believe real world tests have shown the difference to be small.

hi all
i received today my new ram
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-060-GS

i got 2 of these kits (so 4 x 4gb) and i have a asrock fatal1ty m/b

however using 3 sticks works fine recoginse 12gb and boots etc.

however when putting the 4th stick in the pc wont boot etc ive tried swapping the chips and using different slots (so i know all chips are ok and all slots are ok) why is my pc having an issue with the 4th stick of ram ??

Have you overclocked the processor?

Running with more than 2 sticks can cause issues with overclocking.

Perhaps it can cope with 3 but not 4.

Have you been into the BIOS and set speed, timings and voltage manually?

hi no on those setting i only get 3 stick to work so will try teaking the settings later and try 4 sticks. looking on the m/b manual that ram is a supported type and states upto 4 sticks.

hi well i changed the settings made no difference... :(
what i have noticed tho is that the gskill ram chip does not detect in slot one. tried different chips all the same but they all recognise in slots 2,3 & 4. (when i had chips in 1,2,3 it just detected single channel mode (and didnt see the chip in slot 1)
now the ram i use to have in was 6gb (3 x2gb chips) of patriot ddr3 1600 pvt36g1600elk ( ithink it was tri) anyway putting that into slot 1 with the gskill in 2,3,4, it detected it (so i had 14gb in total 2gb,4gb,4gb,4gb)
so that eliminates a fault with the slot and a fault with a particular chip so what on earth is wrong with it ??? accarding to asrock website/ mb manual this exact module of gskill ram is supported (upto 4 chips) so im at a loss
