Best ram ??

Hey guys, whats the views on ram ? is there a best make of ram ? best speed etc ? im going for 24GB's of DDR3 to go along side my i7 but unsure of make n speed etc... I want the best ram i can get hold of ..

Any ideas will be much appreciated chaps !!

Hi there, May I ask what platform i7 you will be going for? (s1155, s2011, s1366, s1156)

As you mention 24GB (3x8GB) then I guess you may be s1366, but this is an old platform. Do you already have an i7 system (if so may I ask what make/model motherboard do you have?) or are you buying new?

Weren't you talking about getting the Asus Rampage IV Extreme and a Sandy Bridge-E processor?

Those work best with RAM running in quad channel mode so if you're buying new RAM (and want a lot of it) then you should ideally be looking at 4x4GB or 8x4GB.

I decided on going for the 980x chip, haven't got a mobo yet just deciding on how much ram i want then go for the board as you can get a board with 8 ram slots so....

That works best with RAM in triple channel mode.

You'll get X58 motherboards with 6 RAM slots but I can't see there'd be any with 8.

All you really need is one of these:

Ah, so you are buying new.

May I ask how much you are planning to pay for the 980X? If it's any more than £250 I would strongly suggest going for a Sandy Bridge 2600K/2700K or bite the bullet and get a 3930K.
