Best Retro Handheld

This Flip 2 that I've been using over the past few days is such a step up over the RP5 for comfort, portability, and convenience. No need for a case or grips and it's very portable in comparison with it's clamshell form factor.

Just need an update from retroid to fix the fan that always runs at a much higher speed than is necessary.

I've ordered one of the anbernice RG40xx H devices, reviews seem pretty good and it seems to play most stuff, should be fun.
Depends what you want to play, the xx h700 chip is great up to PS1 with a bit of NDS and some Dreamcast.
406h is a similar device but a stronger chip (t820) so is great up to Dreamcast and quite a bit of PS2 and Gamecube (still not perfect at those mind)
406h is quite a bit more expensive.

For the price still you cant beat the TrimUI devices

Yes I have bought another Smart Pro (after selling my old one) and also another Brick ... they look classy in the white over the black versions.

Ive got a TrimUI brick, great device but the a133 chip isnt much good past PS1. Does ok with NDS though.
Id certainly be interested in a ‘TrimUI smart pro 2’ if uts ever a thing. Snapdragon 8 gen 2 or something.

Yeah I’m looking forward to what they will release next. But using a 8 Gen 2 will be really expensive. Look at the pricing on the Pocket Ace from Ayaneo … For the TrimUI next device should be sub £100 I feel.

Isnt the pocket ace still concept only? All Ayaneo devices are expensive.

Doesnt seem it

Crowdfunding is not shopping.
Your contribution is a way to support an entrepreneur, but does not guarantee that you will receive a perk.
Understood that, but with my many many years of supporting indiegogo kickstarter items etc etc , I have not yet failed to receive what I have put my money on. Im sure that the Ayaneo campaign is pretty safe, the product exists as there are YouTubers already have the unit.

I would avoid backing items from 1st time companies, I have no problem backing a project/product from a well known established one for something i plan to get anyway with a healthy discount.

edit - I have had good and bad experiences with backing on Kickstarter or indigogo. A smooth kickstarter would be the item will be released and I get it, such as things like an automatic watch (which was a bargain), but sometimes things get delayed or held up longer than they stated, like the Sharge nvme enclosure, because I ordered it with a drive inside and between backing it to release, SSD prices went up and they asked for more money! So I spent time haggling with them about that. Then there are times when the product did arrive but not as expected in terms of quality or like in the promotion - a foldable softbox, felt really cheap and off Temu-esq.

I see people backing first time companies making things like £1500 coffee roasters or espresso machines and I am thinking....the supply chain in that must be enormously complicated, huge risks involved. Too much for me to back.

Yeah same to a degree depending on the amount. Ayaneo has 19 campaigns under indiegogo, so they should be safe. You tempted on the Pocket Ace at all ? Im still hankering for a RP5 still. There is a Aliexpress sale which will make it about £195 ish delivered, but it is a bit jump from the usual £50 that i have been spending on them.

Looking on the spec along between the RP5 and the Ayneo Pocket Ace. I would go for the RP5.

The RP5 has a normal Snapdragon chip, the Pocket Ace looks like it has a G3x gen 2? Didn't another console have more compatiblity issue because it uses a more obscure chip?

Also, the RP5 is OLED and the Pocket Ace is IPS. I would get the RP5 for the OLED alone. They both look similar with button layout so ergonomics will be roughly the same with sticks at the bottom on both.

RP5 it is...although I would also consider the Flip 2 as well, I hear that feels better to play.

Just picked up a Razer Edge with Kishi V2 Pro for £100! Looking forward to having a play, and at that price it was a no brainer.
