Best Retro Handheld

£53 extra for shipping. Think id wait the ~10 days it took to arrive.
Why would I wait extra 10 days for same price? It’s not any cheaper with shipping it’s 179 plus $20 for shipping and plus taxes. So over 200. On Amazon it’s 195 plus taxes so also it’s just over 200. But I will get it in 2 days…

I appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Eh, are you talking in usd or gbp for amazon? Are you in uk?

Ok I pulled the trigger thanks for your helps now I’m not sure if I’ll keep my rg34xxsp or not. I’ll have a week or two after I get that pocket mini to decide.

Also can I transfer my roms/bios and emulator folders to the retroid pocket mini v2 from the anbernic I have? I know I probably can’t use the same UI but will it be easy to transfer over all my Roms I currently have from the anbernic? Should I use the stock UI on the retroid or is the android UI?

Thank you

Of course (if you have bios in a bios fokder and roms in roms) :)

I doubt you will, i had a 34xxsp and sold it as i moved on. I just like using 1 device mainly, but some collect them.

I wish retroid did soft buttons similar to Ambernic. The mini was fantastic for me apart from the super clicky annoying buttons. No one should need to mod their device buttons by taking it all to pieces just to make it quieter, just off a damned ‘quiet buttons’ version for thise who dont like clicky.

RG Cube buttons and dpad have been the best so far (my opinion of course)

Edit - not sure what you mean about stock or android ui, it’s android by default and i think Rocknix is also supported on the rp mini.

I just heard of this new handheld coming out called AYANEO pocket air mini. The only downside I really see is it has 3gb of ram. But it says it can play a lot of ps2 titles and game cube. And it’s priced under at or under $100 max. About 75 pounds o believe

Just an FYI the Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini is running Android 11 which is 5 years old at this point and I believe doesn't get any further security updates. If you're just running emulators that might be okay for you. But personally I wouldn't want a device with such an old version.

Oh ok good to know thanks, what does retroid pocket use? Are any other handhelds compatible with anbernic software? I would prefer just an easy swap and not have to worry about setting up a whole new system.

Do the higher end anbernic still work with the ui as the lower ends?

I mostly only run emulators so probably wouldn’t affect me too much.

Retroid pocket classic uses Android 14.
Sorry, what do you mean ‘Anbernic software’?

Anbernic devices (similar to all other devices) use either Android as the OS or some form of Linux. All Anbernic Linux devices come with a ‘stock os’ (custom firmware made by Ambernic) but you can put your own on, own as in MuOS, rocknix, knulli, GarlicOS, MinUI and others. Stock os is usually pretty poor.
Androud devices usually come with a ‘launcher’ app as the frontend for opening games. The Retroid one is pretty good. You can add your own, e.g. emulation station or Daijisho. I use the latter.

Technically speaking, Android runs on Linux. It relies on core system services (kernel) to run the Android runtime for its core libraries.

Anyone, feel free to correct me. Im no expert!
