Why don't people rate Sagna? He's probably been our most consistent player (consistently good) for the last 4 years.

Unlike the goalkeeper vote I found this one rather straight forward..... Sagna easily for me.

I'd take Richards who is a just a beast, then Sagna.

Quite why Hodgson chose Johnson over Richards for England I have no idea.

went with zabaletta out of that list, hes not an out and out attacking rb (like richards/walker) but i don't see that as a bad thing, gets forward enough, and he seems to display better judgement on when to break forward.

would have gone for Ivanovic, but for me, even tho hes played the position i consider him more a centre half (plus he plays there more than rb cos hes covering for luiz when hes on the rampage :D).

on saying that i'd like to see luiz at rb see how he goes.

The only reason Danny is up there is for his 7 goal line clearances. Saved our ass a few times but looks to be on his way!

Ivanovic for me though.

It's hard to pick as none really stand out, but probably between Sagna, Walker and Richards, as their strengths probably outweigh their weaknesses. The nature of the full back position now is that players will either be renowned attackers or defenders and criticised for whichever aspect of their game they do not possess, it's simply impossible to be as good at both.

I do still think there is room for the proper defensive fullback in the game today (like Zabaleta) but they will obviously receive less praise for their work.

You can be good at defence and great good forwards, or the opposite though and no one would care. Cole IS excellent at both, the problem with someone like Johnson or Sagna, is they can't defend, and worse than that they are lazy and simply VERY often don't bother coming all the way back after an attack, hoping they don't need to.

The amount of times the other team has the ball Sagna will rush back to the half way line(with the back line being another 20-30 yards deeper than that) and he'll stop and see if play get's dangerous or goes back up the field and he can attack again. So often we get caught out with him 20 yards behind the play as someone runs into the space behind him, then you get Kos running over to cover the massive gaping space, and then you get 3 defenders spread all over the place and overwhelmed, with the usual lack of any central midfielders tracking back either.

Sagna is very poor defensively, Johnson the same, Walker.... mistake prone, half a good season, half a very "meh" season. Beyond a couple goals pretty ineffective crossing and wrong choice making offensively. Walker has a HUGE amount of pace to make up for the errors in his game, however without the pace he'd be rubbish offensively and defensively, which to me says, rubbish. Gary Neville had zero pace and was just excellent defensively and very good getting forward.

Richards, is stupid powerful, a massive threat at set pieces, great defensively at set pieces, great timing getting forward, and strong defensively. Maybe the best tackler of all the right backs around, Ivanovic is excellent defensively, gets a few key goals, gets forward surprisingly well for a guy who is a CB and great at offensive/defensive set pieces.

Butts has always been a top player. Always welcome at Selhurst - even if he plays well now.

He's a funny one, he's not quick and he's made some fairly silly mistakes, but when it's all hooked up for him he can really drive the team. Big fan and pleased we have another year with him, even if he'll be backup for next season.
