best route to upgrade spec.

Hi,

just built my first rig and decided to pass on my old vaio K-315Z to my brother and sister (thats my contribution to the environment RECYCLE", anyway the maximum supported ram is 1gig but if i reinstall a clean copy xp pro with out all the sony rubbish will it support 2gig of ram, also thinking of throwing in a larger IDE hdd.

xp 32 bit should support up to 4GB of RAM, the question is does the hardware?

hmm i'm not sure its pretty old but blimey its slow just rather spend a few quid getting as much as possible out of it.
