Best Router For Max Range?

I've got a 2Wire adsl router (54mb), you can crank up the output power way past the legal limit and it rocks (I'm in the middle of the countryside, so not messing up anyone else's connections).
It's a great unit, got it cheap on the bay and there's plenty of advanced management.

cheers guys for those responses. That router where can increase the power sounds great however I'm in a built-up area. I guess it would affect other users..

That other router looks interesting too. Is the gain mostly if I only have a MIMO adaptor on the laptop receiving it?

After i posted this thread I was thinking of maybe getting a bigger aerial for the router (if it decides to work). Maybe an omni-directional one. I don't know if I'd get a great gain with that.:)

What sort of range are you after? I have a Linksys WRT54GS and I use my laptop in the back garden with a great signal. 3Mb/s

Exactly the same as that m8 that sounds great and thought yeah!! :) But then after that thought yours might be in the back of the house and my router has to be in the front of the house :(.Is yours in the front of the house? Please say yes.

The answer is YES. Router in front bedroom.

:D

Version 4 with tomato firmware you can change the Transmit Power default is 42. But it says that you can set it to 251 mW

Bear in mind that you can't buy a new WRT54GS and install Tomato on it though. You'd need a WRT54GL, and 251mW would significantly reduce the router's lifetime.

Ok then the GL version and not at 251mW then but higher than the default . Thanks guys for that info :)
