I'm looking for a new router because the Wifi on the Virgin Media Business supplied router is pretty bad. It needs to support static IP addresses as I have one.

Is there something in the £100 to £200 range?

There is no 'best' answer. The issue the vast majority of time is placement. Wi-fi is governed by laws for power levels, so replacing one Wi-Fi device with another in the same location is unlikely to cure Wi-Fi around the house. Look into putting it in a better place, ie more centrally, prior to spending money.

If that's not helping, look at separate Access Points or a mesh system. TP-Link seem well reviewed.

Thank you. I'll explain my problem as I am a bit confused.

I live in a shared house, so I literally have one bedroom with everything I use in it. When I initially set everything up, I was getting 250Mbit/sec on my Xbox Series X, but now it is less than 100Mbit/sec. On my desktop connected with ethernet, I get the full 1Gig/sec so I'm not sure what is going on really. Unfortunately, I can't plug my Xbox into ethernet as it would mean having a wire across the centre of the room.

It could be channel overlap, I'm unfamiliar with the VM business router, it might be a case of changing the settings on it so it uses a different channel.

Ah, I see. Thank you. I'll look at the settings and see if I can sort it out. There are a lot of Wifi networks where I am.

And limited channels for them to use. If you have an Android phone there are Wi-Fi scanning apps which show you which channels are used by which networks. There are loads of guides/blogs/YouTube videos on this.

If you are in a flat, you may benefit from separating out your networks to 2.4 and 5 Ghz, and use 5 Ghz as it may be less congested.

Thank you for your help. Switching everything to 5G fixed the problem.
