Hi,

I have an ocz vertex 4 SSD which is my main windows drive.

I wanted to know what is the fastest and safest timeout/boot time to set booting my windows 7 x64 too please ?

It is default set at 30 seconds I think, how much quicker can we make it boot, and safely too please, I am just a general everyday geek overclocking user, nothing special, lol.

P.s
what is the best way to adjust the setting ? I see there are a few ways "I think" but I'm not too sure ?

Thanks guys n girls :) ;)

are you talking about the 30sec countdown to OS launch? black screen counting down. if so you can set it to zero.

yea mate, I think so, but seemingly from what I have been reading its best to change a line in the registry or something like that, I tried it the normal way by pulling up system configuration utility and then selecting the boot options, change it to like 5 seconds down from 30 and I couldn't honestly say I notice any difference.

I am sure I remember years ago reading something about this too and they were saying that certain programs etc need to be allowed a certain amount of time to close and open on boot up and close down, but I am not sure if that's still the case nowdays with windows 7 x64 and an SSD as windows drive.

That countdown Ploppy (and I think you) is referring to you only ever see if your PC crashed and Windows wasn't shut down properly. It's the one that says "Your PC wasn't shut down properly, do you want to a) Start in Safe Mode, b) Start in Safe Mode with Networking, c) Start Windows normally" and so on. The screen then defaults to one and counts down from 30 seconds, if nothing's pressed during that time then the selected default is chosen.

During normal day to day PC usage and rebooting, you should never get to this screen, so changing how long it counts down from won't make any difference to your normal boot times so you won't notice any difference.

ohh I see, yea, its not the thing your talking about mate that I meant, but I know what you mean if the pc crashed etc, I was just talking about normal use, using the system configuration utility you can set the timeout to as low as 3 seconds (it wont allow any lower than that), so I have left it at that anyway, but as I mentioned, and as you say too, I don't see any difference to anything, strange though then when you think about why they even have the option there to change it in the first place, lol
