Best screen recorder

Has anybody got any suggestions as to a good free screen recorder please and can you provide a link, thanks.

Purpose? I use Fraps for everything now. But it takes up A LOT of space. It records the full definition/resolution of your display.

But gives the best quality.

Then drag to a movie making program like Sony Vegas or similar. And edit it, then render as Xvid or DivX with AAC audio.

Any other suggestions? I'm interested if my way isn't quite optimal

I prefer using Fraps too.

Another alternative is Hypercam, but there's a silly watermark and I don't find the quality that good. But the file size is a lot better since Fraps keeps it completely raw :rolleyes:

I know it's not free but I use "Camtasia" Really brilliant piece of kit. If it's only games you want to record, then FRAPS is the one for you. Like mentioned, you will need to re encode it to make it portable.
