Hi guys. Just wondering what is the best software to use for recording games and uploading to youtube?

Tried fraps but the picture is terrible.

You must have been doing something in Fraps wrong, the majority of people use it. Have a look at the settings. You'll need an encoder though as the file size will be massif

well afaicr it outputs the file and will be several gigs, you need to make it small. Kind of like a true lossless song, down to mp3, you can reduce the filesize by anything up to 90% for example without much noticeable difference (unless compared side-by-side for example).

You need to look it up, there is a whole bunch of things you'll have to do to make a video look good on youtube as youtube also compresses serverside and all sorts of things.

It's not free, you have to pay to unlock certain features (unless you source it elsewhere).

I use PlayClaw personally. I liked how it didn't halve your framerate. I find it manages to keep file size down too while processing on multiple threads. Fraps may do this now also as it was a while ago when I ditched fraps.

Most popular free alternative http://camstudio.org/ , in fact it's usually the top of the list in any google search.. Alternatively, if you know any students Expression Encoder can be had on dreamspark :) (probably above your needs). Actually this is rather good all in one http://www.ezvid.com/ Oh, and a free editor http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=182 .

Actually there's also a paid alternative to fraps that is gpu accelerated for real-time compression of the recording, but I can't remember what it's called..
