Best screen to reduce eye strain?

Hi,

I purchased the 27.5" HannsG a few weeks ago and while all in all I'm quite happy with it, I do notice I get tired sooner than before (I used to work from a 13" Macbook Pro). Since the missus has her eyes on the HannsG, I'm considering buying another screen that would reduce my eye strain and giving this one to her. Would one of those 120Hz screens be any better? I quite like the screen estate of my 27" screen so I'd rather not downgrade in terms of resolution. My use is office work from home and non-competitive gaming / watching movies/iPlayer. I am sitting very close to a window so it would have to be non-reflective.

Macbook pro is glossy screen? And the Hanng's g is matte? So maybe your eyes aint used to it.
When i went from hanns g 27.5 to a 23 inch 120hz monitor with glossy screen it made my eyes get tied a lot quicker at night and could fill the strain on my eyes so i switched back to matte

Yes, my Macbook Pro has a glossy screen, one of the few things I don't like about it. The HannsG is matte indeed but I doubt that would be the reason why I get tired more quickly. Perhaps it's just the sheer size of the thing that I am not used to? (I'm sitting about a yard away)
Anyway, I guess I'll just have to get used to it. If anyone has any thoughts on possible upgrades later on, especially with regards to eye comfort, I'd be eager to hear it. Would IPS or 120Hz make any difference here? (I suspect not, but I might as well ask)

Just have more natural sunlight in your room, I find thats the best way to get rid of eye strain.

Oh, and have regular breaks from the monitor.

Flopper, interesting to hear 120Hz made a difference to you. I may have a look around but so far all I could see were glossy 3D Samsungs, which I don't need.
It hasn't been too bad lately, regular breaks help indeed so I guess I'll stick with this HannsG for the moment (any upgrade from this is bound to be pricey anyway).

Seconded from Judgeneo, a major cause of eye strain is often just the contrast of your surround compared to the brightness of your screen. Try and match your room's lighting to the screen brightness in such a way that you don't have to adjust your vision when you look to and away from your monitor.

stick a lamp behind your monitor so it lights up the wall. This reduces the difference in light between your peripheral vision and the focus of your vision which in turn reduces eye fatigue. It also improves perceived contrast making the blacks appear darker.

120hz is much better than a 60+hz screens, removed all my eye strains.

Find it hard to beleave 120hz can remove eye strain. I switched to a Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC and im able to use this on much brighter settings and get no eye stain at all. Not somethink i could do on my hanngs g. Always had bright and contrast around 30 to 40

Most likey that 120hz monitor wouldnt give you eye strain runing on 60hz because its down to the screen.

I have been working in IT many years, and the best monitors I've found for reduced eye strain are AG Neovo's glass fronted displays. The glass is anti-reflective, plus the glass also increases contrast giving a better picture. I can only describe the picture quality as similar to the old Dimondtron CRT's, except being TFT it's digital!

I have 3 of the older E19's running at 75hz, on paper my monitors are a little dated, however picture quality and viewing comfort can't be measured in numbers. When I eventually replace these screens will only consider glass fronted screens again.
