looking to stick a sd card in my msi wind to get some ready boast action when i upgrade it to vista/win7 can anyone recommend ?

I use an SD card for readyboost on my x60. It works well. I use SanDisk Extreme III models. I have tested it with 2 and 4GB types on Vista and 8GB on Windows 7.

cheers mate, never used it before as always just brought extra ram, but the notebook has limits, do you think it makes much difference?

I used it with a number of configurations and did notice an improvement when using an old Thinkpad X40 with only 1.5GB RAM.

I can't determine any real difference on my X60 which has 4GB of RAM.

The key point in determining whether an SD card interface will be usable for ReadyBoost is whether it shows up in explorer as a drive apparently.

I have recently installed a Samsung SSD in my x60 and it was a dramatic improvement.

Cheers

John

i dont think a small SD card can make the computer faster if im missing something? lol

you are, in windows Vista you can use an SD card or high speed USB pen to store prefetch files when you don't have enough ram, this prevents more paging to the comparatively slow hard disk which in turn increases performance.

Vista runs fine with 2GB of ram in an MSI Wind (tried it on mine), what exactly do you need 4GB of ram for in a netbook, I personally would be considering a 'proper' laptop if you need that kind of power at this moment in time.

Readyboost in my experience gives minor gains and isn't worth it imo.

I think i must be on about somthing else i have a Micro SD card(which i can also use on my mobile) and plug that into a adapter which goes into a small media card slot.
