Alright so basically I want to have the best security defences, but what are the best out there? Best Firewall/Anti-virus etc?

Yeah I see what you mean, the guy is just.... wrong.

:p

I'd have:

AVG/Avast.
Ad-Aware Personal.
Spybot S&D.
Windows Defender.
All Microsoft Updates for SP2.
Windows Firewall & Router Security.

What? Its true. With a virtual pc (using vmware), you dont need to worry. If you get a virus/spyware on your vpc, just restart the image.

I have:

Built in Hardware firewall on router
Windows firewall
AVG Antirvirus
Spybot Search and Destroy

That's it really and a whole heap of common sense.

Hardware firewall first but if you're talking software then I'd personally go to Symantec Client Security if cash wasn't an issue.

Never had any kind of security breech on it.

I recommend these programs and methods. The ones I use are in bold.

An updated version of Windows XP SP2.
NOD32 (Anti Virus)

AVG (Anti Virus)
Anti Vir (Anti Virus)
Windows Firewall (Firewall)
Kerio (Firewall)
Sygate (Firewall)
Zone Alarm (Firewall)
Router/Hardware based firewall (Firewall)
Spybot S&D (Spyware/Adware Killer)
Adaware (Spyware/Adware Killer)
HiJackThis (Spyware/Adware Killer)

Windows Defender [Untested] (Spyware/Adware Killer)
Not needed services, software uninstalled/not running
A decent password
A locally secure computer (ie, not in the street)

Anti Vir and NOD32 are probberly (in my eyes) the best anti virus around, never ever had any trouble and seems to stop anything dead if don't use proper software you'll have a computer like this.
