Been asked by my mum to get one for her house when she goes away next year. Looked at ADT but not keen on the 18 month contract, so whats best to get, are Yale alarms any good? Seen some for £300 online.

When was the last time you bothered to check a house when the alarm went off?

Funny you that, someone attempted to get into my house last year but my house alarm went off so they legged it. Since the I installed CCTV in my house for extra security. But my mum just wants the alarm for now, dogs are out of the question btw lol.

It's getting more and more important to have these kinds of things now. It's not like it used to be where you'd only have to be worried if you have a specific beef with someone, I'm sure most chavs relish the thought of getting their hands on most of the things that lie around in relatively wealthy households, there can be literally thousands at steak for some poeple. These systems - even if fake and only there for appearance/deterrent - can really save your bacon in the event of a prospective break in.

I don't feel to bad where I live at the moment, we're in a culdesac of a culdesac, and we have had new windows and doors fitted recently and there's quite a few houses around that haven't, so I'm sure they'd be easier targets.

Just me being curious, would you say you've made your money back with saving on insurance alone?

From selling home insurance, the premium difference was about 2% with my previous employer. Which HAD to be a NSI/NACOSS approved alarm which had a maintenance contract in place, which then also put an endorsement on the policy where you had to put it on everytime you left the house and at night. (Not ideal for pets etc)

Bottom line, you'll barely see the difference in your home insurance premiums.
