I have a 3 month old 8800 gt. A crossfire setup would mean replacing the mobo and rebuying of vista just because of the card. The crucial question being whether or not the jump from a 8800gt to a 4870 is going to be worth it on a price to performance ratio? Any ideas :)

I have heard that nvidia price drops in July, 9800GTX for around the £130 mark.

I'm resisting until then :)

I'd rather go for the 4850 tbh. Better performance in a smaller package for nearly the same price.

I'll have to wait and see what kind of performance will come from the 4870-how much it will overclock and how much it will cost-and then compare that to the 9800gtx.

Im in a situation where bought 8800GT a few weeks ago. Thing is I gotta upgrade my opteron 165 setup eventually, so keeping an eye on the 4870 and do a proper upgrade maybe.

I would guess about £350ish at lauch. Probably dropping to about £300 a few weeks after. There will also be a 4850x2 for a little less, or a 4870 in a few weeks if the x2 cards are a bit to expensive for you.

Wow-cool. Thank you

I would wait for a 9800 gtx price drop hopefully it will be under £110 seeing as the 4850 is now £120.
From personal experience of many games not working on cats i'd go nvidia.
