im playing onlow settings with q9550 and gtx 460 and it still looks great..could go up to med or high..but like the higher fps

What everyone is forgetting Is main game comes out viechles and there effects smoke etc will lag this too

my GTX580 runs it on full, but that's on operation metro, maps like caspian border may require lower settings/better cards for 64 person and vehicles

My 580 nails the beta ~60PFS constant.

BF3 published that wee graph yet on Operation Metro a 460 can max the game out. We need tanks and planes and bombs to really separate the men from the boys

I thought the same as you about dual card setups having 8800gt sli and swore I wouldn't touch it again!

Fast forward to current Gen and I gave it another shot, so glad I did!

Both Amd and Nvidia have made vast improvements in stability and scaling, it's so much better.

If you want the absolute best single gpu then it's got to be the 580, if you tend to keep your card for a few years then make sure you get the 3gb one.

Thanks for that now I cant make my mind up again lol.
I guess the only thing stopping me getting the 2 x 6950 is the possible noise/heat issues, but I have a big case (Corsair obsidian 700d) and my PSU -AX850 should be upto the job so this should not be an issue right?.

Also like others have said the beta of BF3 is on small maps and on large open maps with lots going on I think the single gpu might struggle a bit on high settings, I wish they had released a bigger map for the beta..

best single card would be 580 3 gig , single card with 2 gpu's would be 6990.

I've just upgraded from a GTX260 Rev 2 to a 580 1.5Gb and the difference is incredible. Just make sure you upgrade your Nvidia drivers to the 285 beta release which Nvidia created specifically for BF3.

if you go the 6950 xfire have a look at the sapphire toxic as it can be unlocked to 6970 with a flick of a switch with no flashing, tho as always no guarantees.

to OP....i was thinking the same..single 580...but looking at 2x5950 2Gb for around the same price as a 3Gb 580....the 5950's look the best

are you being serious? i only get 40-50fps outdoors on max settings with my 580... are you using max settings?

me too. i would say i get 40-60 frames outdoors and then 60+ in the underground train section.

still feels smooth though. even at 40 frames its not like it feels bad.

im made up with how it runs on the 580, and with the full release game and nvidia driver updates im sure it will be much better in time.
