Best Single Player??

HL2 for story for me, or Mass Effect.

For free roaming game play, with great visuals and more or less brilliant story it has to be Skyrim.

plus if you want scale, the Supreme Commander (the first one) can't be beat

If i was you i would go with Black Mesa (Half Life remake with updated gfx) considering it's a free game so you can't go wrong there.

Just for reference, I didn't enjoy the first Bioshock, and skipped the second, however I am LOVING the third.

Bioshock Infinite is the best game I've played since HL2. It ticks all the boxes you're looking for and is a much better game than the original in my books, I never got more than half way through the first one.

If you're looking for a more run and gun and less of a story driven game then try Just Cause 2 or Far Cry 3. JC2 being the better of the two imo. JC2 and Bioshock Infinite are the only two games I've finished since HL2.

Portal 2 :
Very clever with a very witty and funny story to carry you along with the story, and the game looks pretty good on PC maxed out, the gels look great at 1080p
