Whats the best skatng game?

Have found the skating games can be good for passing a bit of time, and are totally non-taxing on the brain.

I have tried a demo for Skate, and quite liked that, and on the weekend bought Tony Hawks Project 8, which I am not quite as keen on.

I like the control in Skate over P8, and one thing I am not keen in P8 is that I can't seem to find an easy way to just have a play around in different areas, or just into races of some kind. I imagine am going to have to unlock things by going through it in career, but I don't want that.

I jsut want a whole load of options available to me so that I can just pick up and play what I want.

Any suggestions?

this is a very split opinion and im not going to get into fanboy wars over it

simply put

SKATE for a great control system and realistic ISH gameplay

HAWKS for crazy arcade style combo/comedy stuff

my opinion i prefer skate
it is a bigger game than P8 and PG put together

and more of a challenge imho

word of advice - the 360 version of skate looks loads better than the ps3 version which suffers from a shocking framerate and inconsistant texture mapping.

EDIT* there is no levelling up system in skate
its based on the real life idea that you improve with practice not with statpoints

so you have all the skills at the start of the game that you finish with you are just able to do more as you learn it yourself

as for unlocking stuff - all of skates unlocks are cosmetic and make no difference

a few challenges should see you able to buy your choice of customisations from the stores in the game

Skate. HATE skating games but Skate really got me hooked. Played it a friends house a few months ago and I'm desperate to borrow it off him but he's ALWAYS on it.

Just seemed so much fun once you'd got use to the controls and seems like a game that could keep you going for a few months.
 
I loved project 8 when I got my 360. I also loved SKATE (started playing again at the weekend)

I thought I would never go back to THPS but I do miss some of the funky challenges so I might pick up the newest one to test it out.

I would say get SKATE though, awesome game.

thrasher was classic!
i wish they would bring that out in the store so i could use it on psp!

i think the op is on about current gen games but i would always reccomend thrasher to any skating enthusiast
 
Guess I will look at getting skate. Though I do not like paying more than £20 for a game, so I might have to wait a bit. Just can't justify the costs of getting these things new.
