Whats the best socket 754 AMD made?? i remeber there being a Athlon 3800+ model.. Wasnt sure if they made faster Turion tho?

not sure but i used to have a amd 3400, well i still have it somewhere. good chip it is, it used to be top dog

still got it if your looking for a 754chip

The quickest desktop 754 cpu was the Athlon 64 3700+ Clawhammer 2.4GHz.

Though on notebooks you could get a 90nm Athlon 64 4000+ 2.6GHz Newark. It's an IHS'less CPU so if you were to plonk one in your motherboard, you'd need a boltdown cooler. :)

Do these notebook coolers clock well??

Id like to try and get a socket 754 to the 2.8 - 3ghz mark..

Current CPU is 3200+ A64... want a cheap but small upgrade to this rig.

Any idea where to get one? of these.. seen some on US ebay but not UK :(

Not too sure to be honest. I've seen them floating around on auction sites. Again mostly from the USA but are willing to chip to the UK.

Looks as if itsot available anywhere.. except some US stores for a ridiculous £140 price.

Might just get a 3700+ and try to get a good clock on it.. Any ideas what it might go up too?

A 3700+ Clawhammer? Maybe around the 2.7GHz mark, perhaps higher. Beware, these run toasty. With enough volts and a good cooler it should clock reasonably well.

Another cheap alternative could be a 939 board (perhaps go used and you'll get a decent one for cheap) and the Athlon 64 3700+ S939 on OcUK right now. These are the final 939 chips off the production line and they clock seriously well. Have a friend that bought one and it's doing 2.8GHz without a hitch and would go higher if it weren't the motherboard restricting him.

People have been getting up to 3.2GHz with the final SanDiego cored chips and at £35 it's quite a steal! :D

I managed to get my 754 3700+ Clawhammer to 2.8 easy enough on a Epox 8NPA-sli. Probably would have gone further if it was not for the pathetic little Vcore increase the mobo would allow. That was on water by the way.
