Cherub Rock, Zero, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, 1979, Tonight tonight, Ava Adore.

Then my personal favourite which is actually a B-side and quite often forgotten about, Frail and Bedazzled. Well, joint-favourite with Cherub Rock at least!

Definately worth picking up Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, there are so many great tracks and all of those albums are well worth a listen. Favourite tracks for me - 1979, I Am One, Silverf***, Geek USA, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Disarm, Tongiht Tonight, Jellybelly, **** You (An Ode To no one) and plenty more.

Cant wait to see them at Reading :D , been ten years since i last saw them and though ive seen more bands than i can remember since then, noones come close to the show they put on.

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are the albums I'd recommend starting with. Songs wise that haven't been mentioned check out Mayonnaise, Come On Let's Go, Today and The Everlasting Gaze.

The latest album Zeitgeist is very good if you want to hear what they'll be playing most at Reading.

just got a bunch of their albums and im loving it.

ive done a complete 180 on my opinion on their suitability as a headliner; i think they'll be the perfect way to chill out on the sunday evening:)(better than pearl jam. *spits with resentment and bitter disapointment.*)

You like Zeitgeist in its entirety? I found it so promising with the first four-ish songs (Doomsday Clock is awesome!) but then it really trailed off for me :(

Get the albums..

Siamese Dream, Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness..

Their Greatest Hits album is pretty good too... 2cds with goodness.

Ill be watching the Smashing Pumpkins as well... not sure who is on when but if its between them and Klaxons... omg Smashing Pumpkins for sure

The first few times I listened to it I thought the first half of the album was a good bit stronger than the second, but the more I listen to it the more I appreciate the second half. Make sure you get the 3 bonus tracks(Death From Above, Stellar, and Zeitgeist) that were split over the US releases and the iTunes version of the album. The second half is pretty solid once they're added. :)

I used to be a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan - Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie must rank among the best albums of the last 15 years, in my humble opinion. And they have headlined Reading festival before. ;) Despite their protestations that they would "never reform", I was still pretty excited when I heard about the reunion.

However, Zeitgeist has turned out to be pretty terrible and the enthusiasm has quickly turned to disappointment... The production is overdone, the songs are forgettable feux emo/metal nonsense and it all simply smacks of Billy Corgan's last, desperate stab at 'where it's at'. Once feted, he’s become pretty anonymous of late, and here you have the result. A bit sad really, especially for a bald, 40 year old guy!

I've decided to avoid Zwan 2 completely; they're just not the Smashing Pumpkins in my eyes.

siamese dream is like their 'nevermind' and therefore essential. My favourite album is 'pisces iscariot' Its actually a collection out outtakes etc but the contrast of heavy sounds and light sounds is fantastic. You will hear Billy Corgan screaming and then the next track, you will hear James Iha singing so soft. It does take some 'getting into' though but so do most good albums

Siamese Dream and Picses Iscariot (B-sides & Rarities) best albums.

My favourite songs are Whir, Today and 1979.

Saw them live in 1992 (when Corgan had a full head of hair!) my first ever gig and their were only about 250 people there. Verve supported too. Was amazing.

I haven't heard the new stuff yet. May go check it out now actually :)

Ugh, i can't believe you mentioned klaxons in the same vain as the smashing pumpkins...

Anyway, I would start with siamese dream, then gish, then mellon collie, and go from there.

Pretty much every tune on siamese dream is great - gotta love albums like that.

Siamese Dream is the only album i'd put on nowerdays...this is a masterpiece.
That new song is atrocious!

Mayonaise is a great Siamese Dream song btw.

Think that's very harsh. This is not Zwan MkII in any way shape or form, it is the Pumpkins. Smashing Pumpkins has always been Billy and Jimmy and although I'd have loved to see James Iha on board this is as good as it's going to get.

Zeitgeist is a good album, certainly miles ahead of Machina. While bits of it aren't as good there are enough great tracks on it to make it a worthy addition to the Pumpkins catalogue. Doomsday Clock, 7 Shades of Black, Tarantula, Starz and Come on Let's Go are all great songs imo. Undoubtedly the Pumpkins sound has changed a bit, but its miles better than the soft rock meanderings of Machina and still has trademark Corgan guitar work. Zwan stuff was all pretty lightweight and cheery, this has a far darker edge ala The Everlasting Gaze. I also think it's a bit of a grower.

emo/metal nonsense?

lol funniest ever :p

for me Tarantula is classic pumpkins, i don't understand any 'true' fan who doesn't like the riffs on this track.

doomsday clock and starz are 2 more great tracks.

overall the album is better than i anticipated to be honest and i look forward to the next Zwan work also.

pumpkins are still miles ahead of most bands around these days

Amazing album, pisces iscariot, for me, my favourite. Frail and Bedazzled, blew away, plume, whir, landslide ( fleetwood mac cover ) and the awesome song, soothe. a lot of memories, both good and bad.
