best socket 775 cpu

I would suggest looking for a Q6600/6700 second-hand for around £80.

If you budget is a bit higher a Q9550 would be great chip to get. There should be new ones still available but they are generally overpriced - second hand may again be the best bet here.

Make sure you update your BIOS to the most recent version (0703) so it can support these chips.

I'd say either a Q6600 or Q9550. Both overclock pretty well.
Although most games don't necessarily use all 4 cores, it's nice to have them available for when more games do start to use them :)

Edit: cmndr_andi beat me to it! :(

just looked on ebay q6600 are going for £90 to £100 my budgets £80 ill keep trying, thanks.

Hm thought it was the same rules as with free shipping where you got access after a year with 100 posts, my bad.

hes only got half the posts for mm access, shame since it's infinity better than fleabay :p

that seems to be a matter of opion a lot of member treat the goods for sale as scrap and offer stuipd prices i have sold my g25 for 50% more on the bay compared to the silly prices being offered in MM. The way the MM works however i agree is very good and trouble free so far :D

Think the MM is generally better for buyers than sellers, although a lot of items go for comparable prices when you take into account bay/paypal fees.

If you keep watching the bay, one will pop up for a decent price. I was in a rush lately, but still managed to get a Q6600 for £80 on a best offer. Guy was looking £100. Best offer items are sometimes the way to go.

just won a q6600 slacr malay, £77 on ebay, is this a go version, and will my old fan from my e4600 be ok to clock it up to 3gig.as theres no fan included,

Depends, if you're lucky it'll be alright at 3GHz with stock volts and cooling, but it's advisable to spend at least a bit on a slightly better cooler.
