I desperately need to get a new cooler for my Socket 939 MoBo. The temperatures are not happy.

Can anyone recommend a good one please?
I would also like to to be 'future proof' - i.e - one that I can move onto the next MoBo I get at whatever time that may be :)

Im tempted by the Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir, however, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro has also caught my eye due to the reviews and the price.

Are the any other alternatives that I have overlooked?

I would have loved the Noctua NH-U12P but I don't think it is 939 compatible.

Thanks in advance. :)

Titan fenrir will fit intel & amd sockets all flavours, artic cooling freezer 64 pro only amd sockets 939, am2, am2+ & am3 but not good enough for quads. What about scythe karma angle or Scythe mugen2 very large though!
I have an artic cooling freezer 64 pro on my 939 3800+ x 2 o/c to 2500mhz no problems.
Check out june issue custom pc review of cpu coolers.
Hope this helps you, but word of caution make sure you have plenty of room in your pc case as some of these new coolers are very large!

The fenrir is an excellent cooler by all accounts I can find, just run the fan on low speed or it can be noisy.

The scythe mugen 2 is a lot quieter and gets within a couple of degrees of the titan on am2/2+/3 systems
beats the titan on 1366 idle, couple of degrees higher load
but on 775 it lags 5 degrees or so behind

If you wand optimal cooling, get the titan - if you want nearly as good with less noise, get the mugen 2

(All numbers pinched from custom PC)

Doubt I'll be going i7.
Im an AMD man myself :)

The Mugen 2 is looking more tempting now, at only £3 extra.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the ones so far :)

Just ordered the Scythe 2 with some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

:)

Thanks for the input all.

My Mugen 2 just arrived.

Wow, its HUGE! The sheer weight of it is ridiculous too!

Looks quite good though and will hopefully not only reduce my temps by a good ammount, but will also last me for a good time too.

Thanks everyone.

Strapped it on last night, gave the case a bit of a rejig too.

My CPU temp went from 40-45 idle to 25 and from 99 under full load, to nothing above 40! Even on the Prime 95 torture test, it would not go above 40 degrees!

:)

Im throughly impressed!
